Bettei Senjuan (Tanigawa Onsen)

With views of Mount Tanigawa-dake, the serene Japanese-style rooms at Bettei Senjuan feature a private hot-spring bath and traditional futon bedding. The ryokan also offers a spa, refined Japanese cuisine, and six public hot-spring baths.

Bettei Senjuan was selected as one of the Best Small Hotels in Japan in the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2015. Tatami floors and shoji paper screens create a zen atmosphere, and each room is air-conditioned with a flat-screen satellite TV, plus an en suite shower and toilet.

Private hot-spring baths outside the guest rooms can also be reserved for a fee. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby. Guests can unwind with massages, a sauna, or quiet time in the library.

Japanese breakfast and a multi-course kaiseki dinner are served in a private dining room. Seasonal specialties featuring local vegetables and beef are offered.

Bettei Senjuan is conveniently located, with JR Minakami Station a 10-minute ride away via the hotel’s complimentary shuttle. It is a 15-minute drive to areas where guests can try canyoning, and Tanigawa-dake Ropeway is just a 30-minute drive. The ryokan is about 100 m from the river and 20 km from the mountain. Kashozan Ryugein Miroku-ji Temple is 10 km away.

Every room at Bettei Senjuan faces Mount Tanigawa, known for its snow-capped peaks and the cherry blossom trees at its base that tint the landscape pink in spring. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the unspoiled scenery and flood the zen-inspired interiors with natural light, where modern design meets the art of kumiko wood joinery and original calligraphy. The ryokan has 18 guest rooms, with options including Tatami Futon, Tatami-Western Bedroom, and Western style.
