Kanamean Nishitomiya (要庵西富家)
Kanamean Nishitomiya is one of the ryokan that have endured amid the modern landscape of downtown Kyoto. Its wooden architecture contains only seven suites, opening onto a small Japanese garden adorned with seasonal flowers.
The word Kaname in the hotel’s name carries two meanings: the rivet of a folding fan, and a key point. Named in honor of the area’s history of fan-making culture, it reflects the hope that guests will come to regard Kanamean Nishitomiya as one of their key places in Kyoto.
Kanamean Nishitomiya’s philosophy has, since its founding, been grounded in the teachings of ONKO–CHISHIN: pursuing new knowledge by studying the past, and learning from the ancient wisdom of those who came before.
