Have you heard of Mother Farm in Chiba? Spring is the best season to go.
Mother Farm is an oasis away from the concrete jungle — a place where both young and old can get closer to nature. City dwellers escape here for personal encounters with a wide variety of farm animals, seasonal flowers, fruit picking and other hands-on experiences. Perched 300 metres above sea level, the air is cool and fresh, and the farm sits within easy reach of Tokyo and of both Narita and Haneda Airports. It is counted among the top three theme parks in Chiba Prefecture, and its grounds occupy an area some four times larger than Tokyo Disneyland.
What to see and do
There are so many attractions that covering everything in a single day keeps you happily busy. The most popular activity is meeting the alpacas and having your picture taken with them.
Daily animal attractions include the Agrodome "Sheep Show" — a delightful New Zealand-style performance with a sheep-shearing demonstration. It is always astonishing how quickly a sheep is sheared, and after the show the audience can join the sheep on stage for photographs.
Seasonal flowers
The hillside fields are covered in flowers throughout the year: narcissus, wintersweet, poppy and plum among them. Rapeseed deserves special mention — the farm boasts the Kanto region's largest field of rape blossoms, a sweep of brilliant yellow in early spring. Cherry blossoms follow from late March to early April.
